I am sure you heard the phrase, “Are you in or are you out?”

Today, I am asking you this question regarding your health.

Some patients are spectators. They sit back and watch. They watch their waistline increase, their strength and energy lessen, and their life slowly slip away.

Then, there are the players. The patients who strive to do better in spite of their situations. They continually want to learn how to improve their health to live optimally, to have less pain, less illness and more energy.

If you are a spectator (the one not feeling so well), please let me invite you to the game. Choose yourself to be the star player.

And if you are a player and still not feeling well (you have tried all the diets, exercise, medications and supplements) you need to join a different team.

Being healthy and staying healthy is not a one person activity.

At the Center for Functional Health, the patient is the star player. And the star player has a great coach (the doctor), an assistant coach (maybe another doctor, nutritionist, health coach), administrators (the folks who work at the front and back office) and last but not least, the fans (your family and friends).

To make a great player, to excel in life, it will take time and practice. Creating health is a journey. It’s not as easy as “one pill for one ill” or a “magic vitamin”. There is no one exercise or one diet. And what you have done in the past may not matter as your biology is different today compared to 5 years ago, let alone 10 years ago.

If you apply yourself, accept some ups and downs, and create your support team you may find yourself in a different place in only 6 months. As you know, life can be very hard. And that’s’ why getting stronger and staying healthy will help you better handle and adapt to the changes in life.

Are you ready to invest in yourself?

Action items for this week:

Consider moving from spectator of your health to a player in your health.

If you have been a player for awhile and are stuck, it’s time to create a new team.

Just make one decision this week to make your life a little healthier. Consider one of the following (or if you are the daring type, all three): drink more water in your day, go to bed 30 minutes earlier than your normal bedtime, or skip a meal.
