Dealing with constant GI issues isn’t normal, no matter what anyone tells you. Today, I’m going to talk about five steps to improve digestive health.

When it comes to dealing with chronic gut issues, the conventional approach usually involves medications and testing and that’s a good thing.

What happens afterwards is what we need to address when every test comes back normal and the medications are not working. What’s your next step?

This is why a root cause approach to establishing a healthy gut is so important. The health of your gut microbiome is often not a discussion in the conventional setting when it comes to gastrointestinal related issues.

Do you know that your microbiome plays an important role in your overall health and well being? And that when your microbiome is out of whack, when it’s out of balance, when the bad bacteria starts to run the show, you can experience symptoms such as bloating, abdominal pain, and poor digestion?

It’s important to look for pathogens, look for bacterial imbalances, bacterial overgrowth, H. pylori, opportunistic bacteria, fungi, parasites, and assess intestinal health markers. When it comes to healing your gut, not only do we need to consider your gut bug population, but also anything that could be disrupting your ability to digest food properly without troublesome symptoms.

This is why we follow a special 5-step protocol to weed out the offenders to deal with food sensitivities and inflammatory foods and then rescind your gut to restore a healthy balance and function.

The 5 R approach:

  1. Remove– any bugs or parasites hanging around and remove food sensitivities and irritants such as gluten, corn, soy, and dairy.
  2. Replace– some enzymes that probably aid in the digestion of your food.
  3. Re-inoculate– consider prebiotics and probiotics to reestablish a microbial balance.
  4. Repair– that supporting substrates such as glutamine, aloe vera, and DGL to squelch the inflammation.
  5. Rebalance– the most often overlooked part of the protocol yet one of the most important and that’s exercise, sleep, and stress management.
